If you haven’t yet received your 2019 PAYG Payment Summary, this may be why.
It’s Tax Time 2019, and we have had a lot of phone calls and emails from clients who are quite confused about when they can book in to get their 2019 tax return done.
Much of this confusion is about when PAYG Payment Summaries will be available and how they can be accessed.
Did you know that the way employers report your tax and super information to the ATO is changing?
Many employers are now using a new reporting method called Single Touch Payroll (STP).
This means you may not receive a PAYG Payment Summary from your employer if they are reporting through Single Touch Payroll (STP).
You are now required to access your Income Statement or payment summary information online.
Your payment summary information will be available in ATO online services through myGov, and it is called an ‘Income Statement‘.
So, if you’re expecting to receive your PAYG Payment Summary by post or email and you haven’t received it by 14 July, it probably means your employer is using STP.
To see if your PAYG Payment Summary (or Income Statement) is ready for tax, please check your myGov account.
If you do not yet have a myGov account, you will be required to create one online here.
I don’t have a myGov account – can I still do my tax return?
Perhaps you don’t have a myGov account. Or maybe you’re having trouble creating your myGov account.
As your Tax Agent, we can see your PAYG Payment Summary information via your ATO report (provided your employer has sent it to the ATO).
If you have not received your 2019 PAYG Payment Summary, we suggest that you contact your employer to find out when you’ll be receiving it, and how you will receive or access it.
Not all employers have moved across to STP, so it is possible that you could receive your PAYG Payment Summaries by post or email.
I want to know more about STP, can you help me?
Yes. The ATO has published a fact sheet about STP and how if affects you as an employee. You can read or download a copy of this fact sheet here.
